Liverpool and Arsenal have reportedly struck a deal that will see one of the club’s attackers move to the Emirates for a world-record fee.

The Gunners and Liverpool have done business in the past, with Alex Oxlade Chamberlain’s move from Arsenal to Anfield one of the most recent and high-profile exchanges between both clubs.

The English attacking midfielder joined in the summer of 2017 for a reported £35m fee, signing a five-year c0ntract that summer.

Despite being plagued by injuries during his time at Liverpool, Oxlade-Chamberlain showed glimpses of his quality.

He played 146 times for the Reds, winning the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup and FIFA Club World Cup titles.

But he is now a free agent after his contract at the club was terminated.

Meanwhile, Oxlade-Chamberlain is not the only player that has moved from Arsenal to Liverpool in recent seasons.

Both clubs have traded female players, with former Liverpool striker Asisat Oshoala moving from Liverpool to Arsenal in 2017.

Most recently, Liverpool Women vice captain Taylor Hinds also made a switch to Arsenal.

And now, both clubs have reached an agreement for the transfer of Canada striker Olivia Smith.

The Canadian forward has been a big hit at Liverpool since joining the club last season from Sporting Lisbon for a club-record fee believed to be just over £200,000.

She scored seven times in 20 Women’s Super League appearances in her debut season in England, netting just under a third of the team’s league goals across the campaign.

Despite still having several years on her Liverpool contract, Arsenal are said to have agreed a deal t sign here.

Her move to Arsenal is set to become the most expensive transfer in women’s football.

According to The Athletic, “Arsenal’s bid of £1m ($1.36m) exceeds the previous record fee set by Chelsea when they signed USWNT defender Naomi Girma from the San Diego Wave for $1.1m in January.”
The report also revealed that “all agreements are in place with the deal set to be announced imminently.”
Smith was Liverpool Women’s top scorer last season with seven goals after joining from Sporting Lisbon in July 2024 for a club record fee of €250,000 (£212,000).
